Given a choice, I wouldn't touch a magnetic moving coil pickup with a barge pole, no matter who makes them. Quite simply, they do not hear the sound of the guitar, only the magnetic movement of the strings. However, I am considering getting a couple as backup simpley because sometimes an in house p.a. system is so badly setup that feedback without one becomes unavoidable.
Undersaddle pickups are alright, but tend to be a little harsh sounding. The phrase often used is "they have a lot of quack".
I use passive soundboard bugs with a pre-amp. They seem to me to have the closest to the actual sound of the guitar. Having said that they are not perfect, and I would prefer in all instances to use a decent condenser microphone, or best of all play unplugged. Of course, you may want a sound that isn't like your guitar. I know a number of players who love the way a magnetic coil pickup sounds on their guitars, but I think that they may as well use an electric guitar, or any old cheap sounding guitar. Passive pickups need some form of pre amp, and generally some form of tone and volume control.
The current configuration that I use is:

These are linked with an A/B switch so that I can switch between two guitars (generally the two 12 string guitars) each with it's own pre amp and eq. settings because they are tuned differently and have very different voices. These then present a single input to the house P.A. system.
